The first day of autumn was September 23, but in my book, it was October 5. Until late last week, it felt like second summer around here. I even turned the A/C back on temporarily because your girl was having hot flashes. I’m generally not a fan of second summer; once school starts and football begins, I’m ready for the sunny but brisk fall weather that’s supposed to signify the start of fall — you know, the kind of weather where you can wear a light sweater and riding boots with your leggings instead of a tank top and flip flops.
Now that it’s “officially” fall — and again, I don’t mean by way of the calendar — we are knee-deep in all things fall: high school football, homecoming, college family weekend, Mallomars (of course!), and as an added bonus this year, college applications. Normally, I love everything about fall, but this year, the season has had as many downs as ups.
The ups … Family weekend at Middlebury and UHS Homecoming.
Despite my lack of photos to prove it, family weekend at Middlebury was super fun. We tailgated with other lacrosse families, met up with my high school bestie and her freshman daughter, spent quality time with our oldest, and even played pickleball on the campus courts.
UHS Homecoming was also a success — and not just because I didn’t have to iron this year since the boys deciding to go with a more casual look. (You can reread last year’s struggle here).
Special thanks to Cynthia and Jeff (#hostessgoals) … Good weather + good friends = good times!
On the other hand, the high school football season hasn’t exactly been a winning one and college applications … Well, let’s just say it’s a bit of a pain point in our household right now.
I don’t know how either the football season or the college application process will pan out in the end, but I do know one thing … Good or bad, both will pass as yet another “last” in a long line of lasts for my high school senior. We’re just trying to enjoy the ride as long as possible.

I love this but hate the long line of lasts (perfect phrase by the way). I love our boys and their friend group! We are beyond lucky!!!!
