If you know me IRL, you know I live in a top knot. I hardly ever wear my hair down for two reasons: (1) I live in the gym, and (2) I suck at styling it.
If it’s not in a top knot, it’s twisted back with a flat claw clip.

But my beloved top knot is now gone. As of last week, I have an accidental French bob — and I’m not sure how I feel about it.
For those who don’t know, a French bob is a very short, blunt cut. Above-the-chin length short, like this:
I call mine an accidental French bob because I did not intend to get a French bob. It’s not what I asked my stylist for.
I’ve been going to the same girl for years. She knows my hair and knows I love my top knot. I showed her three photos of what I wanted her to do. Each was a super cute long bob with curtain bangs.

That’s the look I was going for. Long bob with curtain bangs.
But somehow, something was lost in translation. She started cutting from the back and by the time I knew what was happening, it was too late.
French bob it is, I guess.

I’m no stranger to short hair. I even rocked a pixie cut for a year or two in the late ’90s, as evidenced below.

But my ’90 pixie was intentional. This French bob was not.
It’s only been a week, and I’m still learning how to style it. And more importantly, how to wear it to the gym so it’s out of my face and off my neck. (That little bit of hair that touches in the back is super annoying when I’m sweating.) So far, I’ve tried a very short low pony (no good) and a mini top knot (better).
Lucky for me, my hair grows quickly — just like that one lone chin hair. In a couple of months, I should have the long bob I was aiming for in the first place.
Until then, I’m going to invest in some styling tools and hope for the best. Wish me luck!
