This is a public service announcement for all my thin-skinned female readers, shivering this winter.
I don’t know if you know this about me, but I’m a bit of a trendsetter. One-shoulder tops and dresses? Pantone purple? Athleisurewear? The #messyhairdontcare movement? All me. Well, maybe not officially, but I like to think so. What’s hot now, you ask? Leg warmers. They’re all the rage this winter — especially for us gym girls. Seriously. My sister-in-law in NYC confirms it; She sees girls all over the city sporting their leg warmers. Even Jennifer Garner was photographed recently donning a pair, so I know I’m on to something.
I know what you’re thinking … Leg warmers are a little Olivia Newton-John/Jane Fonda-esque and very 1980s. Agreed, but is that really such a bad thing? It’s retro, like friendship bracelets — which, for the record, are also making a come back. After all, fashion is cyclical. It was only a matter of time before leg warmers came back into our good graces, and I say that time is now for four simple reasons:
- They are practical. As a girl who is always cold, running my post-gym errands in capri-length yoga pants has been torture these past few months. #Firstworldproblems, I know, but #thestruggleisreal.
- They are affordable. Starting at under $10 and averaging about $20, you can easily find a pair online. Amazon has pages of them.
- They are flattering. Sort of. At least more so than wearing bulky sweatpants over your yoga pants, which adds extra junk to your trunk. Who needs that?
- They are cool. When Under Armour makes them, you know this athleisurewear accessory is on point.
So if you see me around town flaunting my leg warmers (and my new friendship bracelet, courtesy of my bestie), don’t hate. Join the revolution. Your calves will thank you for it this winter.
