This week’s post is something different. It’s not a midlife observation, a sarcastic take on parenting older teens, or a comical look at caring for aging parents. It’s a repost of an article I recently wrote for AutoimmuneSisters.com. But before I give you the link, let me set the stage …
I’m not usually one to follow silly social media trends, but I was intrigued by mouth taping.
For years, I was a sleep talker and sleepwalker. Apparently, it was a trauma coping mechanism I developed as a kid. I was also a mouth breather. As a result, I woke exhausted every morning with a dry mouth, bad breath, and drool on my pillow. And because I never felt rested, I started my days as a cranky, tired-ass bitch. It wasn’t good for anyone.
But then I saw a TikTok about mouth taping and the easy sleep hack changed my life. Yes, that sounds dramatic, but it did improve my sleep quality, which has had a trickle down effect. So yes, mouth taping changed my life. Don’t @ me!
While I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that I discovered this trick on TikTok, I’m not an idiot. I did my due diligence before trying it to make sure it was safe and even spoke to my functional medicine doctor about it first.
My two big takeaways: Not all TikTok trends are foolish, and mouth taping works for me (keywords being ‘for me’).
Because I’m a sharer, or maybe it’s just because I’m swamped this week and need an easy out for this week’s blog post, I’m sharing what I learned about mouth taping with you. [Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor or medical professional and nothing I say should be taken as medical adivce, diagnosis, or treatment. It’s purely anecdotal based on my own personal experience with mouth taping.]
So here it is, my recent article about mouth taping, written for AutoimmuneSisters.com (link). Read it, share it, and if maybe try it for yourself (if your doctor says it’s safe, of course). Happy reading!
