The meme above is totally spot-on for me today (although, substitute dresses for swimsuits). I usually write my Tuesday posts on Sunday (then schedule them to go live), but like everyone else I know, I’m busy AF right now with work and the holidays and appliances breaking and my college kid coming home this weekend and … blah, blah, blah. You get the idea — LIFE.
I’m sitting here on Monday night with … NOTHING. For a moment I thought I’d just skip this week because my busy-ness has left me blank. Seriously, I cannot think of a single creative, funny, seasonal, or poignant thing to say to you all. But I’m also stubborn AF. I haven’t missed a weekly post since I returned from my last hiatus in 2021 and I’m not starting now. I’m not going to ruin my 107-week streak (if my math is correct — and it may not be, since math isn’t my strong suit) just because I’m too tired and overwhelmed to think of anything good to say. #sorrynotsorry.
Writing isn’t a forced job for me, and it isn’t just my career choice, either; it’s my outlet; my therapy (now even more so that I’m currently in between therapists — hey, maybe that’ll be my next blog post …). I need to write. For my mental health. Even when I don’t have time. Especially when I don’t have time.
The truth is, nobody has time for anything. But we make time for what matters to us. For me, that’s exercising daily, meditating nightly, and writing weekly. These are my non-negotiables — even when I am busy AF. That means, this week, you get a short, succinct, straightforward post that maybe will make you think about what your non-negotiables are, even during this hectic holiday season.
So that’s it. That’s all I got for you this week. Stay tuned for that therapist story (probably not next week though because, you know, holidays), and in the meantime, remember what your non-negotiables are and make them happen — even if imperfectly, like this post.
