Here’s a vulnerable truth: I don’t have many (any?) local friends. My closest girlfriends (with the exception of one) live far away in other states. Because it takes a lot of planning—and money—I don’t get to see them as much as I’d like. But when I do, it’s always worth it.
Case in point: Last weekend, I flew to Florida to see my bestie, and it was everything I needed.
Before you ask, the trip was planned long before I knew the Eagles would be in the Super Bowl. Luckily, my flight landed before the end of the first half and our pilot kept us updated with scores. I was home before half time.
Anyway, as I was saying …
K is a planner (like me), so she scheduled a few activities for us in advance to maximize our short time together. On the agenda: outdoor yoga, sound bath, sauna, cold plunge, barre, time by the pool, healthy brunches, yummy dinners, and lots and lots of time to talk, laugh, question, ponder, and even cry a little.
It was perfect.

Here’s the thing no one tells you: maintaining adult friendships takes effort. Especially long distance ones. But when a friendship is real and rooted in true connection—not just history or circumstance—it doesn’t feel like work.
It feels like home.

Love you, K. Besties for life—like it or not
