For someone who doesn’t get out much, I’ve been “recognized” quite a bit lately … And I’m not sure how I feel about it.
For those who are new around here, I am a self-proclaimed introvert. I also have social anxiety. And, if I’m being honest, I don’t like many people.
I am, what I call, a trifecta of reclusion personified.
As a freelance writer, I work from home. I do go to the gym daily and the grocery store weekly, but other than the occasional doctor’s appointment or lab appointment, that’s pretty much it. I rarely leave my house.
When I do venture out, I avoid eye contact and rely on my ever-vigilant RBF (that’s resting bitch face, for my all my Boomer readers) to keep me safe from others.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be working lately. In the past two weeks, six people have approached me to say they “think [they] know [me] from somewhere.” I didn’t recognize any of them.
We went through the usual places: school/kids, gym, work … No connections.
Do I just have “one of those faces”? I really don’t think so.
Could it be that they recognize me from here, my blog? That would be nice.

Whatever the reason, I have mysteriously become my town’s most famous introvert … Or at least someone mistaken to be.

You are really a very funny introvert then.
Your Mom, my friend Grace, as you are well aware does not like it when we are together, and I speak to strangers. Possibly you take after her. She thinks it’s strange.
I find that living alone makes me do that even more..
Sometimes they are very cordial and engage in conversation. Maybe the ones who don’t are a little bit like you. But that’s not a bad thing. You have always been lovely and I’ve known you for a very long time.

You’re a sweetheart, Kathy. And you’re outgoing nature is a big part of that. I’m awkward, which is why I tend not to engage. But sometimes I try.
