Triggered

Posted on April 8, 2026April 8, 2026 By lauren@laurendeweytarr.com

Unless you’re new around here, you know I’m a big fan of the word f*ck. When I can’t say it aloud, I rely on my middle fingers to do the talking …

Triggered

Maybe that’s why they’re now broken. Well, not exactly broken. More like stuck. I thought it was a consequence of deeply cutting my finger back in December. It’s not. Apparently, I have something called trigger finger in both my middle fingers.

Triggered

With trigger finger, the tendons connecting the muscles to the finger bone are inflamed. A bump, or nodule, may also form. This prevents the tendons from sliding through the tendon sheath when flexing the fingers, causing them to get stuck in a bent position.

It’s not just unsightly; it’s painful.

Triggered
What my hand looks like every morning when I wake up, and periodically throughout the day.

They say it’s caused by overuse (check ✔) and affects women in their 50s and 60s the most (check again ✔). Having arthritis (check ✔) and thyroid disease (check ✔) are common risk factors, so it looks like this was inevitable.

Treatment is a splint and/or a cortisone shot. I can live with that. As long as I can still flip people off, I’m good. After all, a girl’s gotta be able to express herself.

My son had trigger finger of his thumb. He actually had it surgically fixed.

Wow! Hopefully I don’t have to go down that path. Has he fully recovered without complications?

Yep! Having surgery was really his only option and it healed very quickly. Totally normal now. Good luck!
