I feel like I live in a house of horrors. For the third time in six years, we have a mold problem.
As part of my fall purge, I hired an expert two weeks ago to do a deep clean of our HVAC duct system. I knew it was dirty and dusty, for sure. But I didn’t know it was also moldy.
If you’ve been around awhile, you know we had a massive mold problem back in 2022. It cost six-figures and many months to remediate, not to mention nearly two years for me to recover from mold toxicity. (Apparently, I’m very allergic to black mold—who knew?!)
Then, shockingly, in 2024, we had another mold issue. Not as massive, expensive, or as damaging to my health as the first, but still a huge pain in the ass—and wallet.
Fast-forward to now, and, you guessed it, we have f*cking mold again. Evidently, the entire upstairs HVAC ductwork system wasn’t insulated or properly installed, allowing condensation to leak and mold to grow.
It feels like déjà vu: tearing out parts of my house and remediating black mold. And don’t get me started on taking a ton of pills for the next few months to detox my insides.
Homeownership isn’t for the weak. Or for the mold-allergic. But now that we paid for a whole-house air purifying system along with our new ductwork, I may finally be able to breathe easy … At least until the next home disaster hits.
